Mike Franklin & Eric Stuteville
Owners, Stuteville Landscaping
Eric Stuteville grew up in Orangevale, California, where taking care of property was just part of everyday life. His mom and grandparents both had large properties, so weekly lawn care, irrigation projects, and weekend fix-it jobs were normal. When you grow up around land like that, the work never really ends—and that's where Eric first learned to appreciate what it takes to maintain and improve a space.
Mike Franklin grew up close by, and the two cousins spent much of their childhood working on projects together. Both were heavily influenced by their grandfather Joe, a General Contractor with over 40 years in the trade who specialized in custom home builds and remodels. Eric, Mike, and Eric's brother Mason were always around job sites, tools in hand, learning how things were built the right way. Construction wasn't something they discovered later; it was part of how they grew up.
Both cousins attended Casa Roble High School, but their paths diverged after graduation.
Eric fell in love with two things early on: basketball and construction. Basketball became his first big passion. What started as a kid playing at Casa Roble eventually led to Division I basketball at Sacramento State and later professional experience in the NBA, NBA G-League, and European leagues overseas. It was an experience he's forever grateful for, and one that taught him discipline, teamwork, and leadership.
But construction was always there as a second skill set and a steady foundation.
Mike pursued a business degree in Santa Barbara, developing the communication and problem-solving skills that now play a big role in how he works with clients. Before co-founding Stuteville Landscaping, Mike gained real-world experience working for another landscape construction company. That time in the field gave him a practical understanding of how projects actually come together—what works, what doesn't, and where clients often feel underserved.
When Eric transitioned out of professional sports and Mike had gained his field experience, the cousins reconnected and realized they had complementary skill sets. On April 4, 2022, they founded Stuteville Landscaping with a simple goal: take what they learned from other companies and do it better—for both clients and employees. Better communication, better planning, and better overall experience.
What started as a small operation has grown into one of Sacramento's highest-rated landscape construction companies. We're not the biggest company in the area, but we're the most committed to doing things right. Every project gets the same care and precision their grandfather demanded—the kind of craftsmanship you can only learn from three generations of experience.

At the end of the day, Mike's focus is making sure clients feel heard, informed, and taken care of throughout the process.
Co-Owner | Construction & Operations
Eric oversees all construction operations at Stuteville Landscaping. He manages crews, scheduling, materials, and on-site execution, ensuring every project is built to our exacting standards.
The same qualities that drove success in his athletic career—hard work, accountability, preparation, and pride in performance—translate directly into how he runs projects today. Eric loves the landscaping side of construction because, in his words, "it completes the home." A well-designed outdoor space can transform how a property feels and how families use it.
Today, Eric leads with a focus on quality work, honest communication, and creating spaces that last. The goal isn't just to build something that looks good—it's to build it right and to give clients a great experience from start to finish.
"We're here to serve and to give our best in quality, service, and overall experience."

Reviews
"I've used Stuteville Landscaping for FIVE different projects over the past year and I'm a customer for life. First project was drainage solutions—they solved a major standing water problem that three other contractors said couldn't be fixed. Every single time: fast, professional, high quality, and excellent communication. I won't use anyone else. Ever."

"Stop your search. Stuteville Landscaping is the one. Eric and Mike were amazing to work with. From start to finish we had constant communication and they even went above and beyond with some details that weren't originally in the scope of work. Their crew shows up on time, works hard, and cleans up every single day before they leave. The level of professionalism is unmatched. They can do it all, soup to nuts. This is truly white glove service."
